Well done
Mr. Ratzinger – one might think – since he went back
to the roots and does what he can do best in my opinion: harsh
and pounding end time electro. If just expedience or true return…
we have to find out in an interview. However, Cannibal
Anthem marks the eighth release and should propitiate
older fans that got disappointed by Ratzingers last three and
shallow outputs.
As regards content :WUMPSCUT: tries an adaptation
of the cannibalism theme its link to current topics one cannot
dismiss. Cannibal Anthem tells the story
of an anankasm-driven protagonist who – at the end –
makes becoming true what he has in mind expecting a drastic and
probably polarizing end. Concept and lyrics are provoking, no
matter if you take it all literally or metaphorically in a wider
sense. That’s the way we know Rudy Ratzinger ;)
Intro Herzlich Willkommen still stumbles a bit into the
first dancefloor-crusher Wir warten, but this one immediately
runs into your legs and spreads a darkly paranoid atmosphere.
Die Liebe and Pass Auf again are somewhat of
romantically touched, rough but downright twisted declarations
of love, while the title-track and Jesus Antichristus
e.g. unite both of these musical aspects. Means, beats get screwed
down a little giving more room to the oppressive schizophrenic
atmosphere.
I think some of these “Atari” sounds could have been
used in a better way but all things considered Cannibal
Anthem is a well-balanced mixture of what is Rudy
Ratzinger known for, keeping musical tension over the entire running
time of this effort. Female guest vocals on Pass Auf
and Hunger get contributed by Onca. It’s nice and
fits in well.
After some runs Cannibal Anthem definitely
get stuck in your ears!
