WINTERFYLLETH
have been one of the better UK Black Metal acts of the recent
years, with their previous album The Mercian Sphere
being one of the best UK Black Metal albums of the past years.
Their third album, The Threnody Of Triumph, has
now managed to go to even greater heights. Epic, soaring choirs,
riffs that will worm themselves into your ear and won't come out
again. So many amazing songs on this album - there is not one
bad song on this album. Those are not just songs, but hymns, hymns
to people who have died. The lyrics are about how the ancient
British people used to view death in the past, about their spirituality
and how they dealt with death. Æfterield-Fréon
is a short interlude that incorporates violins and it fits in
perfectly before all hell breaks loose for A Memorial.
The Glorious Plain, which is a typical WINTERFYLLETH
song, brought to perfection with epic choirs and riffs that will
haunt you. Home Is Behind is a wonderful, wonderful instrumental
acoustic song, before the album closes with the title song The
Threnody Of Triumph, another song that just begs to be played
live and bang your head to it.
I cannot wait
to see these songs live and sing along to them - it's near impossible
not to be moved by this album. If WINTERFYLLETH happen
to play near you, go and check them out.
