Crispy and compact in 33 minutes the fourth full-length of Hardcore Punks VENOMOUS CONCEPT crosses the finish line. With members of Napalm Death and Brutal Truth one could say it’s a grinding band. But, far from it! Already the band name is homage to Punk legends Poison Idea, and that is the way Politics Versus The Erection sounds like. With tracks ranging in mid- and up-tempo fields, the Sirs pun(i)c(s)h the listener with most brutal Hardcore Punk and crass howler monkey singing. Sure, you can hear Napalm Death in the guitar work that adds more atmosphere to some songs.
VENOMOUS CONCEPT should not be dismissed as fun band, even if the guys have audibly a lot of fun playing. Politics Versus The Erection is a no-bullshit and humorless smack in the kisser. The cover alone makes clear how dissatisfied the band is about a certain clown in the White House (which hopefully leaves soon). Uiuiui, Kevin Sharp really sounds pissed off and lets off a lot of steam.
Which an average time of three minutes the tracks are short, crispy and stripped down to the essence. The record is pure fun to listen to and the few blast beats to find on it even spice up.
Especially in these troubled times such laid-back and snottily played album is a boon.
Tracks recommended: Promise, which reminds a bit of Die Kreuzen and Voivod, and Broken Teeth, with its full braking after half of the song. The title track reveals a wave-like Industrial note and could be found on a Napalm Death record too.
Excellent! Support this!
