TYRANT EYES from Germany present variedly played Power Metal on their second album The Darkest Hour. It was a good decision from Scarlet Records to sign the band, because the music is really worth to check out.
First of all, the vocals are recognizable, because they sounds like Tom Angelripper from Sodom in some songs and in other parts they sound pretty Heavy Metal like without the - for some people horrible - high pitched screams. The guitars are very well played too, and create riffs which are nearly 100 % bangable, so they are good music for a metal party in a late hour. The only thing I think could have been done better is that there aren't a lot of refrains where you can sing along and some parts which are easier to access. Because of this the album needs some more repeats to unfold the whole power and to show that the CD is conclusively in itself. This fact is because of some progressive parts who don't fit that good to the sound of the album. Some riffs are in the vein of old Death Metal bands, especially if they would have been produced in another way, which I think is a cool thing, because the Band simply doesn’t care about the borders of Power Metal and that makes the band more unique. Besides the mentioned Death Metal parts, there are some influences from Old-School Thrash bands, like in the opener Night Of The Defender, or cool rocking parts which remind me of 80´s Heavy Metal bands too, but I have to say that these things are more a quotation in the all over sound and not the main music. The production, especially the guitars, is very modern and powerful. The keyboard is more in the background and only when it’s used as the determined melody instrument it’s mixed much louder, but not disturbing.

Layout and presentation of the band are, like the standard in this profession, on a high level and so here one can't find a point for a negative critic.

Upshot: Lots of good moments but sometimes you’ll find some inconsequential riffs who don't fit to the rest of the music. Nevertheless The Darkest Hour is a very good piece of Power Metal especially for people who are open minded for some other kinds of Metal..
