Let me say
one thing first: this 3-track promo is addictive! Really!
Being overwhelmingly swamped with high-rated reviews and positive
responses for the first output Promo 2K5,
THE VERY END couldn’t land a deal though.
Plans for the debuting long-player were put on hold again; instead
the gents come out with another promo CD entitled Soundcheck
For Your Funeral to add more emphasize to their
demand (oh, and they should make it this time!).
THE VERY END kept up the well proven formula
and offer again three tracks of addictive quality. Don’t
wonder when you find yourself pushing the “repeat”-button
for the tenth time in a row. Fans and active concert goers should
know these new tracks; they all got already performed during the
one or the other show ;)
Opener Flatline lives up its name and crushes out of
the speakers as a mighty impact, keeping you alive with a more
melodic approach in the refrains due to the clean singing of Bjoern
Goosses. The Loss Theory and Gravity follow
same patterns, harsh and brutal strophes, and melodic clean refrains.
The Loss Theory tops even the opener with its brutality
and heaviness, while Gravity displays more of the harsher
note of the predecessor.
As already mentioned, Soundcheck For Your Funeral
has a more melodic approach. Especially the Swedish Thrash note
got scaled down, while the typical American groove (Machine Head,
Fear Factory, Pantera and Co.) gets more room to develop itself.
This promo is again a bad ass and awesome piece of music. Of course,
way too short with its 13 minutes of running time. As for me,
I generally like the more edgy approach, THE VERY END
shouldn’t become more melodic ;)
