The band itself describes its music as “Hungarian speedfolk”, which fits perfectly. The first thing I want to deal with are the vocals: on the one hand the Hungarian language makes the lyrics incomprehensible but on the other hand it makes the vocals quite interesting because Hungarian just sounds unique. Furthermore the male voice is very variable – which even leads to a bit of rap. That’s the thing about the male voice. The quite high singing of Miss Nagy however is a thing you must get used to and which could scare off the listener at the very first moment, at least as long as he isn’t that familiar with this music.

Apart from the own compositions on the already fifth long player by the TRANSSYLVANIANS there are also a few traditional tracks. Short instrumentals are offered in between with the so-called mini suites. You thoroughly feel that the band knows how to play their instruments as well as the joy of playing.

Not without good reason it is called speedfolk – it’s fast and driven rock – with instruments like accordion, saxophone as well as violin and double bass, which occasionally just amaze. However in some tracks it can also be much more relaxed. On the one hand the music certainly never gets boring but it could undoubtedly begin to get annoying, which could be balanced by the short running time of 46:13 minutes.

Regardless of that you can absolutely imagine at listening to the CD to participate an atmospheric festival in the middle of the Pannonian lowlands. But there are also oriental sounds appearing from time to time and the music sometimes even reminds of Mano Chao.

On the whole Igen! is a very interesting and sovereign piece of work. If you buy the digipack there is additionally a remix (!) of the song Jánoska as a video.
