Are TOXOCARA
the ones becoming the next big Dutch rebel in 2008? This question
is easily answered: no, they are not. Even if a letter of refusal
is given to this one, I say definitely “yeah!” to
the Death Metal played on The Great Rebellious.
The four guys around bass lady Anne von Dorn know how to master
their instruments, even much better as guys from other bands of
this genre. The formula of success of their second release can
be found in the American Death Metal character: The Great
Rebellious is, to a large extent, a raging Pit bull Terrier
which sank his teeth somewhere between Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity
and Immolation without being monotonous. As a guarantor TOXOCARA
focuses on cleverly devised song structures addicted to technicality,
mixed up with groovy parts or samples. Latter ones are just sporadically
embedded, supporting the overall pictures and statement of the
songs, instead of being disturbing. U-48 – Dive Of Death
is accomplished by a echo-sounder, Among Amon counts on
a movie sample, Fusillade The Coalescent is lent more atmosphere
by short and back grounded choral vocals. When talking about the
vocals, pleasantly and naturally deep they get shot out of the
speakers. The last roar given to The Great Rebellious
is the phat production. Even if TOXOCARA don’t redefine
the Death Metal, this brutal release filled up with killer riffs
makes its way in every Death Metal collection.
