There are still positive surprises among today's bands, for example the Italian Power Metal band THY MAJESTIE. Some of you will now probably think that I am out of my mind, mentioning Italian Power Metal and positive surprises in one sentence. Actually, most of us are quite aggrieved by Rhapsody, even though this formulation is a bit inequitable. It is rather the thousands of cheap Rhapsody-copies out there, molesting us with their primitive sound and wannabe-bombast and spoiling our day. That is, however, not true for THY MAJESTIE. Seemingly over night THY MAJESTIE turned from a complete newbie to an insider tip, as they write wonderful songs, reduce bombast for the benefit of song structures and have a much more decent vocalist than Rhapsody. Their most recent piece of work is a concept album about Jeanne d'Arc and contains everything which enthuses every Rhapsody fan: This contrast bath of emotions stretches across a whole hour, the stirringly composed and perfectly realized rise and fall of a legend. Instrumentally virtuosic, but still coherent. To cut it short: Simply great! I give them 9 points and not 10 just because the whole musical style lacks autonomy and self-reliance, in other respects I am completely positive about this album. It is not strange that the former manager of rhapsody already contacted the band, as here lies the future of epic Power Metal!
