THORNGOTH
dedicated their souls to the most uncompromising musical style
on our blue planet, namely pitch black Metal spiced up with a
pinch of dirty Thrash-attitude and some slower elements.
The opener
Curse Them rushes in very impelling, but this track avoids
the danger of a pure and senseless high speed orgy with the adoption
of loosening parts in mid tempo style. The musicians care for
alternation and they show this effort during the next felicitous
composition Kill For Paradise, which offers some borne
passages. That’s the reason why the penetration power gets
boosted. Unfortunately THORNGOTH are not able to capture
me continuously, because the crushing tracks do not sound inspired
enough, though they are well played for sure. A further disadvantage
is the hard to understand vocals by singer Akhorahil. Interesting
titles like Schiachperchten would have deserved a closer
lyrical treatment. What a pity!
I like best, when the tracks march on in throttled speed like
Der Wanderer, which enthuses through some incredible screeched
vocals. In further course, THORNGOTH let flash through
the guitar melodies in fulminant style and they create a wonderful
atmosphere.
In all, the
overall impression of Rauhnacht remains ambivalently,
because cool ideas are present, but they get relativized by one-dimensional
Black Metal. I appreciate the frosty atmosphere on Rauhnacht,
but I miss more penetrating and suspenseful compositions with
goose pimps guarantee – but everyone should check the very
good tune Der Wanderer!
