Take a deep breath after the electronic introduction...this work demands a lot of tolerance from the trve metal head or old school blackie. Dystopian sounds combine with rapid drums that blast mechanically and leave little room for relaxed passages. The mostly reverberated screaming vocals (sometimes extravagantly preachy or over-the-top avant-garde) deliver their lyrics in a desperate manner and this mixture sounds very intense. After a few tracks, the cyber-metal tugs at the thickest nerves, so symphonic additions do well - they soothingly loosen up the inferno. Mostly, however, the distanced sound colossus hammers along stubbornly and dully. Sometimes the modern sound scenery fades into the background and the listener immediately relaxes with a black metal frenzy (The Birth Of No-One) - the break in mood in the middle of the track towards a sewing machine going haywire completely overturns the effect and seems like a meagre morsel of rock-hard bread. The melodies are barely recognizable in the inferno due to their enigmatic manner, but are a marginal glimmer of hope. The technoid passages of DMT - Infernal Fractality then give me the rest.
It is not easy to consume this album in one go due to its intensity. The high tempo, mechanical rhythms and enraptured vocals as well as sounds put nerves and patience to the test. Avant-garde modernists without blinkers may dare to listen to this, everyone else will probably bite their teeth out - it sounds as if Samael and Arcturus are going completely crazy in techno nirvana or something...
