Although this
is the first album under the moniker TALES OF DELIRIA,
they already released a demo and a full-length before, when their
name was Deliriä. The style description mentioned above is
only a first clue to classify the music of this talented band.
The five Italians season this basis with elements of traditional
and progressive Metal. Some passages even breathe a light industrial
vibe. This sprawling mix works surprisingly well, not least because
the right balance between brute musical force, technical skills
and appealing melodies is found. The songs are never overloaded
(such as Mercenary for example) and the flow is obtained over
the entire distance. A remarkable share of it has shouter Orion
who knows to deal with his variable vocal cords and thus enriches
the musical spectrum further, whether it is the whispering voice
in the right place or the intense, almost Black Metal-like screaming
in the violent parts added by deep Death Metal growls. The modern
but not too modern production goes ahead, nicely balanced and
completely adequate for this kind of music. By the way, the mastering
was done in the Finnish Finnvox Studios. Well, not every song
reaches the same high level (otherwise an even higher rating would
have been possible), but highlights as Under This Shroud
(with simple but very effective guitar lead in the chorus), title
track Beyond The Line (groove with variability) and A
Snatched Love (great rollercoaster ride) show an enormous
amount of potential and will.
With Beyond
The Line TALES OF DELIRIA create no commodity and
thwart (along with other bands such as Kingcrow and Gory Blister)
the popular prejudice, that Italian bands only produce kitschy
Symphonic Speed Metal, that is hardly to bear. Anyone who likes
heavy and sophisticated tunes, alongside compact and relatively
catchy, should try this disc!
