Smilodon fatalis. A mammal from the Pleistocene, belonging to the genus of the Saber-toothed tigers (Machairodontinae). Big, hairy, equipped with long teeth and in all cases deadly. What a fitting name for a death metal band. But if you take a look at the picture of the band you may ask where the permission for the name is. Especially if you wonder about the tiny Luzy. So let deeds speak for them. Put the CD into the player and see where the pope is boxing or the tiger is growling respectively. After a filigree intro, a thrashing sound bangs out the speakers that kicks ass. In this case one cannot speak of a demo anymore. Very heavy and filled with bass, almost overloaded to be honest. Those who are into melodic death metal perfectly right here. Clearly you can figure out the influences from Gothenburg, but with a more modern sound. This sound is more from the metal core scene, but with this scene the dudes from SMILODON got only peripheral contact. The guitars are too freaky, the hooks too melodic and the songwriting does not consist beat downs. But now I want to come to the heart of the band. If a girl appears in the booklet, one might think about the „boob-factor“ to promote the band. Shut the fuck up guys, this girl got more balls then many of us. In higher tunes a comparison with Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy can’t be dismissed. In lower tunes Luzy is clearly far ahead. Good job, sweetie. Altogether this CD kicks really ass, these 25 minutes doesn’t feel like that and you still long for more. These are the reasons why I do not recommend a single song, because: a) 25 minutes is time in the live of a metal-head he can spend for music; b) all songs are brilliant. So get your ass into the internet, check their homepage and buy the CD!
