When legends return it’s not always a good thing. Some of them come back after years of silence, present a boring album and it would be better if they never came back… But there are other musicians... and you can’t believe that they indeed present a new album. You take the CD, listen to it – and you’re totally enraptured. This will surely happen if you listen to the new work of PINK TURNS BLUE, one of the best (German) guitar-wave-bands of the 80ies. With songs such as Michelle or records like Meta they had real masterpieces. And now, eleven years after their last regular album they are back with Phoenix – like a phoenix from the flames! The 11 songs on the album have the same sound as PINK TURNS BLUE at their best times – in the 80ies, when they played pure wave-sounds. This here is PINK TURNS BLUE at their best. They didn’t try to transform their sound to modern music; they play authentic and really convincing! The songs live from the melancholic sounds, the beautiful melodies, the dominating guitars and the desperation that is still in Mic Jogwers voice. Songs such as Good Times or Dynamite are really great dark-wavepop-songs. There are some harder guitars in underground, but most of the songs are melancholic midtempo-tracks. It’s hard to point to some songs – all of them are great, whether The Lost Son or Feel My Soul or any other song. Great album – and the comeback of the year!
