The North
diligently grinds on and on. Gothenburg’s OBLIGATORISK
TORTYR isn’t an exception and they take the same line
on their second release Återförödelse.
Considering that this band was founded back in 1998, it attests
to a studio phobia instead of get the urge to grind our bones
to the ground. Ok, this isn’t the right motivation for this.
After releasing the debut album Obligatorisk Tortyr (released
by Osmose) they split with their drummer. A long lasting search
for a qualified drummer ended in 2005; the trio completed again
with Stefan. Originally a guitarist he picked up the grind quickly
– hats off! ? The line-up to record Återförödelse
was found. 26 tracks in 38 minutes, hats off again! Unfortunately
the songs tend to flash by. OBLIGATORISK TORTYR play good
grind indeed but it opens up too little highlights for my taste.
But when they come up with something just like that, it’s
like a slap in the face. The opener Död & Förintelse
with its crooked guitar play like Macabre does sometimes or Life
Is Fucked are songs, which go straight through the core. The
Swedish hit my musical nerve 100% with Ett Anständigt
Liv. This is a fucking awesome Punk-Grind killer. I love this
song! The Speed Metal influence in Mellan Hopp & Förtvivlan
also knows to make people interested in. The aggressive shouted
Swedish and English vocals of Jens and Viktor are steady all over
this album and fits quite well to the Grind. It’s a pity
that there are only a few highlights like these. Every song in
its own special focus is well done and high standard but the complete
works could be more detonating. Anyhow, OBLIGATORISK TORTYR
intrigues me and I will keep an eye of them.
