With the release
of their seventh album Moons And Mushrooms
(Honi soit qui mal y pense ;)) Swedish dark metallers from the
lake of tears have finally found to themselves. Ok, the Headstones
times are over but also – so it seems – musical and
stylistic twists and turns as on the contract fulfilling The
Neonai and the comeback album Black
Brick Road.
Guitar work is significantly heavier and kicks powerful ass, while
Daniel Brennare sings with a more aggressive approach. Rhythms
are driving and let bang your head. Yes!!! It is a pleasure again
to get into LAKE OF TEARS and you definitely
do not need any mushrooms to listen to their music.
Musically speaking LAKE OF TEARS leveled off
at psychedelic Rock/Metal areas. No kitschy organs anymore, nor
bittersweet Gothic leanings. The Swedes just rock, but with their
unique melancholic and depressive touch. And they surprisingly
contain themselves from ballads. There is only one, Like A
Leaf, a great one, but the rest got to rock. Just try out
Last Purple Sky, Island Earth and Children
Of The Grey.
Moons And Mushrooms is the album I would
have called a great comeback album. It is just way too short with
its 37 minutes of running times.
