Honestly I
have to tell you that I am really tired of all those Pagan Metal
bands, because most of them lack of special identity. KROMLEK
are different and try to walk an own path – and I appreciate
this approach.
KROMLEK
preach about the end of the world (this is meant by the Latin
title Finis Terræ) and I pay attention because
of the use of many different languages; besides German and English,
the listener can enjoy Swedish or Latin words and some others!
Musically, the artists avoid all too happy sounds, the one or
other modern element conjures a quite eerie atmosphere. Every
now and then, I can find danceable and swinging parts in decent
and well dosed manner. These oscillations add some zest to compositions
like Nekropolis‘ Fall.
Sometimes, enthusiastic and raging Melodic Black Metal comes to
the fore, always combined with keyboards, which contribute many
melodies in unobtrusive style. Nice melody lines and some unloading
instrumental parts show up as well as contained sequences with
spoken vocals. This tactics sums up in a quite catchy sound, but
the band does not use many refrains to sing along. The deficit:
no ear candies or hymns! In contrary, this album tries to count
with its long term effect caused by the serious approach.
During the piece Manjushri Aus Mir, KROMLEK integrate
some samples; fast-as-an-arrow attacks add some zest to the composition.
In this case, the demanding way wins against catchiness anew.
The band presents a lot of ideas: in the course of the track Moritvrvs
Immortalis we can enjoy an eerie and also hymnal choir arrangement
which cares for embossed moods. Afterwards, an instrumental part
lasts for a few minutes (Creation’s Crowning Glory);
decent electronic influences enrich Metropolitan Roots.
Then a child’s voice tells us a story, simply accompanied
by floating background sounds, ere the epos Finis Terræ
marks a wonderful variable punch line…quite a bunch of ideas!
Some details
unfold their zest after some time on Finis Terræ.
You have to deal with the songs, because they are not easy accessible
and hard to digest. I like this more serious way of Folk Metal,
because this is entertainment with class!
