JANUS's mates serve us once more again another facets of the story around Mr. Drown from their grandiose album Schlafende Hunde, on a maxi EP with an opulent running time of more than 40 minutes. It presents a new building block for every chapter of Schlafende Hunde, a new ( resp.old ) version of Hotel Eden as well as 3 pretty different re-mixes.
From these 9 tracks I especially like very much Bruderkuss due to the epic refrain and the doomy sluggishness as well as Kopf in Flammen with the clever interaction of heavy guitars and classical elements. Whereas Tag für Tag is the weakest song from the youngest creative period in my opinion, anyhow I miss the bow of tension which would keep this song together.
The retro version of Hotel Eden is significantly heavier and more metal touched than the original, likewise changed a bit in the lyrics and ultimately I like it more, although I'm not really a friend of sax tunes ...
The same apply for the re-mixes. Partially they are drastically alienated (especially Veronica by Daniel Myer ), but it's still a matter of taste determining, if you really need them. By nature at least Hotel Eden (by Oliver Goetz) and above all Bruderkuss (by Thomas Rainer) are more electronic and club-suitable turned than the album versions. Who knows what for ...
Because the graphic design continues the standard of Schlafende Hunde, it still gets well-deserved 9 points.
