GRIEVING
AGE dedicate their souls to Doom Metal. Thereby the two featured
tracks are that monumental as the unloading title of this album.
The extremely
epic pieces meander out of the speakers in monolithic way. Enwrapped
in a perfectly fitting sound vesture (Dan Swanö did the mix),
the speed oscillates between lumbering slow-motion riffing and
kind of Power-Doom metal in moderately hefty style. The desperate
vocals from the tomb by Ahmed Shawli attach a partly aggressive
touch to the compositions, whereby the second song turns out to
be more variable. In this case, I like the enormous augmentation
in speed. The music sounds ably arranged like a lava stream. Partly,
the songs are not that hot continuously and the band seems to
use the monotony as stylistic device, which could arouse an impelling
effect as well.
For me, GRIEVING
AGE play really convenient, but cumbersome slow motion music,
this sounds suspenseful but not impelling enough. In the end,
the impression of a dark monster work evolves, which would have
needed more nice melodies and surprising elements to leave noticeable
traces in my long-term-memory.
