I want to
start with the most obvious deficit of the debut release of Australias
GREY WATERS: the playing time is much too short!!!
Why? The reason is, that the sounds are really intoxicating and
the outstanding tracks enjoy as well as the nice packaging.
The terms
emotional, homogenous and diverting describe the album with the
very cool title Below The Ever Setting Sun at best.
Thereby the musicians act in similar way like Anathema or Klimt
1918 and they got a nice portion of rocking power on board. Consequently,
the four songs and the short prelude show up in brilliant manner;
sometimes the guys play in contained style and give space to silent
sounds to unfold. They also know how to rock so that there is
no chance for boredom because of the filigree way of performing.
The tracks show up in down-to-earth way, but despite this simplicity
they seem to be demanding. The impelling voice of singer Tim attaches
many different emotions to the songs. Surprisingly, we can listen
to some aggressive vocals in the closing track Broken.
The powerful guitar chords in the first song Say Goodbye
care for a not kitschy atmosphere, which is also present in the
following piece called Below The Ever Setting Sun. In last
case the vocalist and the guitars perform an elegiac melody and
remind me of Anathema in convenient manner, including an orchestral
touch.
In all, the
sound is not at all that sad as the group’s name suggests,
I’d rather describe it with the words hopeful and positive.
I can listen to Below The Ever Setting Sun again
and again with joy, because I like the pulsating emotionality
and power as well as the broad sound. I am looking out for much
more!
