Good news: GRABNEBELFÜRSTEN is no longer this chaotic the band used to be in the past! The music is easier to consume, but it has nothing to do with easy listening tunes. The song structures are more coherent this time and in every song I can find cool parts, but the FÜRSTEN could not manage to create a song which is end-to-end enthralling and suspenseful except the very well composed track Traum. The structure is full of suspense and I want more of this! Unfortunately there is too often the motto to play as fast as possible… Nocte Obducta come to my mind thinking about atmosphere and moods (like in the acoustic part of the song Zwillinge) and the sick way of composing brings these two bands close together; it is the same with the length of the songs, two of them are longer than 10 minutes. Here GRABNEBELFÜRSTEN are able to build up a certain suspense and play varied music, whereas the slow and solemn parts please me a lot more than the “play as fast as you can” style.

GRABNEBELFÜRSTEN define themselves through dark and morbid moods and feelings, in contrast they don’t set so much value on playful crowning achievement or technical finesse. This does not mean that the guys can’t handle their instruments well, but the band is faceless in the fast parts to define themselves only through music. The voice of Sturm Deiner Winter (funny pseudonym!) is a little bit crazy and out of tune as usual and is used in a clear as well as harsh way. The same it is with the lyrics. For me, this mixture is too weird and bustling, but maybe I don’t have the patience to get in real contact with this kind of music? Oh, I did listen to Schwarz Gegen Weiß for seven times or so, but I can’t find the way to the musical palace of GRABNEBELFÜRSTEN – I am able to detect some well done parts, unfortunately it is not sufficient for some continuous good songs. As a consequence I recommend this album only to tolerant listeners who like morbid atmosphere.
