The music of GOTTESFINSTERNIS belongs somewhere to the field between bands like Illuminate and Goethes Erben, but has a great amount of electro sounds. If you add the music of the old Terminal Choice and most of all Das Ich and Instrucial influences and stir it up, you can imagine the music of GOTTESFINSTERNIS. On the debut album Angstschrei of the German duo you can find a lot of clichés: The name of the album, the black and dark green cover, many pictures of crucifixions and candles. The German lyrics are really dark and center around the main topic of the apocalypse, but sometimes also um “typical” topics like sex and Lucifer. But GOTTESFINSTERNIS also have critical anti-war-songs and reflective lyrics in their songs.
Concerning the music, GOTTESFINSTERNIS present a lot of variety. There are pulsing and very catchy club hits like Sie marschieren wieder or Gottesschmiedefeuer. Those songs have pushing electro sounds with a lot of atmosphere and parts of classical- and chamber music-influences and the dark voice of Toms. Especially Sie marschieren wieder is anything but boring: The hymnic chorus, the beats are pulsing and over all you can listen to the recitative voice. On the contrary Die Nacht im Winter or Am Waldesrand are more silent songs that sound nearly peaceful.
If GOTTESFINSTERNIS are brave enough to find a way to more autonomy and leave a few clichés behind, they may belong to the best electro bands. They are on the right path!
