Aggressive,
direct, uncomplicated, down-to-earth. No place for experiments,
modern influences or clears singing. This variegated troop round
the Jack of all trades, Wolfgang Rothbauer, cudgels through 11
songs in the cut-set of Death Metal and Grindcore in jolly style.
The lyrics are presented in German language with the only exception
Värdighetens Avgrund and fit the direct in-the-face
attitude with intransigence.
Drummer Per Ekegren, well-known from the mighty band Grave, adds
a portion of purulent groove, so that the songs drag in mighty
style from time to time like in the short bulldozer track Für
Gott Und Gold, including a cynical spoken outro.
The grinding stone is sharpened for a while during the nearly
epic tune Schöne Freude and the band plays in really
heavy lumbering manner.
Prügelknabe shakes his leg to deadly swaying grooves,
ere the hymnal opening chord of Im Leben Nicht reminds
me of In Slumber or ThirdMoon. This rudiment of an easy-going
melody is swept away by typical harsh attacks a while later and
I think that this constant fire wipes me out until the end. In
contrast, the slightly orchestral concluding song called Todessog
surprises totally and sticks out completely. More breathers like
this one would have boosted the dynamics.
Weltenschmerz
is an intense and furious release, but it acts in one-dimensional
style and only rarely holds astonishing turns to leave remarkable
traces. Heaviness is put into perspective by continuous aggression.
