Consort
Of A Dying God is quite hard to take concerning the playing
time as well as the pathetic presentation of this concept album.
The spoken parts feature a very heroic timbre which is exaggerated
in my opinion. In addition, these words are louder than the music
– the balance is not the best concerning sound.
The music stomps in felicitous way, but stays really unremarkably
without an enormous touch of catchiness. GOAT OF MENDES
act in battlesome manner (Course Of Constantine), then
again easy-going and elegiac. Last mentioned mood is conjured
by the adoption of a violin.
A galloping rhythm dominates The Dark Deceit Of Man; the
melodies form the thread, but do not avoid the song’s triteness.
Afterwards, the calm beginning of the tune In Sara’s
Tents creates a nicer sentiment, but the chords do not grab
me by the throat despite the wonderful mandolin.
In all, the band tries hard to stay variable; many melodies are
felicitous, but not outstanding, many moods are convenient, but
not enthralling…this monster work does not touch me deeply
apart from the mandolin and violin. This album is only nice, convenient
and exerted – a partly rumbling charm could nevertheless
attract to the target group, catch word Cruachan.
