What a pity! It is a little bit frustrating that this acoustic delicacy contains 3 songs only - but these ones are really awesome…
At first the professionalism and enormous inventiveness surprises, thereby the solo artist is aged only 18. DAVID J. GIBBS’ music is full of different elements, starting from Black over to Death and even Folk Metal pinches. In addition he varies speed very adeptly and knows best how to combine enthralling arrangements with unleashed power. On top of everything an intense voice being a credit to Black Metal hits my taste perfectly.
First track entitled Pray gleams through its sinister atmosphere as well as chords just made to bang one’s head and rolls bleakly through my auditory canals causing convenient reactions. The composition gets additional zest by the contrasting highly melodic solo by guest musician Pete Hawthorne (Warpath) which is integrated in the suspenseful build-up skillfully.
The following piece Upon The Ice shows another different aspect in the artist’s sound cosmos: wonderful accordion and jaw harp melodies enrich the scenery and the song is able to disperse an atmosphere comparable to the one Dimmu Borgir created in their first years or Moonsorrow do it nowadays.
DAVID J. GIBBS lets his work die away with the empathetic and purely acoustic The Beginning in very calm manner. Dolce acoustic guitar melodies simulate a sunrise – and I hope that DAVID J. GIBBS gives free rein to his creativity and comes up with a CD full of such great ideas. Congratulation, David!
