„Fucking
narcissist, aren’t we?“ can be read with a twinkle in
the eye above the heavy dressed-up and stylish promotion photos
on the homepage of the Italian newcomer band DOPE STARS
INC., whose current album Neuromance
is their debut at Trisol. The musical component of the futuristic
four is – fitting to the visual impression, which will cause
some crushes in the hearts of female fans - in a sound technical
nearly perfect arrangement of electro and rock, this is not surprising
as for Neuromance no other producers than
John Fryer (producer of HIM, Nine Inch Nails) and Thomas Rainer
of L’Ame Immortelle have been behind the controls.
Consequently the cyber-cosmos of the DOPE STARS INC.
is travelling at high speed; handily the tracklist is even mentioning
the BPM figure. In comparison to The Kovenant and Deathstars, DOPE
STARS INC. in spite of the high part of electronic components
do leave enough space for rock star attitudes to throw in a „Yeah!“
once in a while.
There are no musical black-outs or apparent filler on Neuromance
but sometimes the consistent high tempo is a bit tiring and leads
to miss some variety, but makes sure that the album is highway and
dancefloor-compatible. The few slower and melodically multilayer
songs like Make A Star show the whole potential of this band. We
want more!
All in all is Neuromance a remarkable
debut and it will be interesting to see, the other strings on the
bow of their next publications. Fans of the above mentioned bands
can buy this album blindly but should try to get the limited edition
which comes in a digipack in high format including a remix album
of such names as Funker Vogt and Mortiis, adding some other facets
to cyberrock and where some musical highlight can be found (Siderartica,
Spiritual Front). |
