With
Satan’s Nightmare Dave Slave –
the bass player of the Australian noise combo Sadistik Exekution
(1986-2003) – presents the second album of his project DOOMED
AND DISGUSTING. The name describes the music quite well,
because all of the nine songs (plus intro and outro) are played
in a very slow tempo and the numerous strange effects make a quite
distorted impression. Talking about the riffs, one can’t deny
some Type-O-Negative influences, but Dave’s songs are completely
non-romantic and much more morbid. Satan’s Nightmare
isn’t just a common metal album; it’s more like a drug-contaminated,
atmospheric horror soundtrack. The simple composed songs live from
scaring synthesizers and artificially altered croaking and spoken
vocals. There are not many differences between the songs, because
the recipe is always the same: simple riffs and beats meet horror
sounds and extreme vocals.
On the one hand the album is really interesting, but on the other
hand there are just too many better outputs in these times, so I
don’t think, I would buy such a CD. Apart from that it seems
that Dave didn’t take literally things like timing and precision
when recording the songs. Sometimes you notice little mistakes on
drums and on the guitars.
Maybe some soundtrack fans could like the album and Dave Slave groupies
will check it out anyway. |
