Abysmal vocals, calmly flowing guitars in the background, subtly increasing sound walls caring for dynamics – these ingredients suggest a good-tasting audio menu.
Felicitous songs of the brand Darkside Of The Moon know to please: a concise, perhaps somewhat too often repetitive guitar motive forms the basics, an acoustic interlude loosens up the arrangement and a woman's voice sets a counterpoint to hissing growls. The female voice shows up here as small weak point, because the track loses little strength. DOOMAS do not exaggerate this stylistic device, but rather let dry rocking chords stand in the foreground. As proof, I mention here the piece of steam hammer and title track SevenSins. Hymnal leads add another facet of the emotions´ pallet beside the prevailing depressive mood.
The tune Abigail is dominated by the bi-vocal performance and conjures up memories of Theatre Of Tragedy or The Sins Of Thy Beloved, but altogether the piece works somewhat slowly-acting, without the certain something, although rhythm changes can set accents towards the end again. In the process of the mini opera the female voice plays an important role, everything flows on pleasantly, but a downright highlight like an outstanding refrain is not to be constituted, although the finely drawn melodies act as brownie point.
In all, these Seven Sins do not have a very impressive impact and touch me just on the surface, DOOMAS act like a sleeping giant, who is not aware of his eminent power. I appreciate the speedy parts during Enemy Of Coven, showing the way to a more intense effect; in addition, the concluding track Endless Pain turns out to be a felicitous finale.
Unfortunately, the booklet does not correspond to the nice tunes with its unfortunate coloring and I think that the band will improve concerning visual work. I wonder about the direction of coming efforts!
