Hailing from
Winnipeg, Canada’s own DOMENICA got to rock the world.
And they surely leave an impact. Being around since 2004 DOMENICA
now unleashed their debut record The Luxury upon
this world and already conquered their home country, the States
and Japan. Europe is the next on the list and it shouldn’t
be a difficult task either. Provided with an enormously powerful
but a little bit too smooth production by award winning producer
Brandon Friesen and P.O.D. co-producer Marcos Curiel (who also
contributes guest vocals) the band ranges between Grunge, Hard
Rock and Alternative fields and reminds me of defunct Swedish
all-girl Grunge outfit Drain and at points of Hole. Frontwoman
Bekki Friesen sounds fresher but also much more mainstream orientated
but thus less spectacular. I’m sure it will pay off commercially.
The Luxury offers 13 tracks at least 5 could have
been left aside, if it wouldn’t shrink the running time
dramatically. Songs are catchy, especially the lively ones like
What Goes Around, I Love My Gun, Vampires, Lady Like Me
and Luxury. The ballads (as The Long Road, Free
e.g.) don’t score that much, although Bekki puts a lot of
sex appeal into her voice.
Nice album, but nothing spectacular. Though I think live DOMENICA
kick pretty much ass!
