There
are lots of synthie pop-bands in the world – and most of them
sound more or less like Depeche Mode. On their second album Home-Made
Cake Of The Day DAYS OF FATE choose
another way. If any, their music reminds me more of Mesh than of
Depeche Mode. The four band-members play melodic electronic music,
which is mixed up with elements from other musical genres –
for example Brit Pop sounds. The best example is Open Sky.
A catchy tune that sounds like a perfect mixture of Synthie- and
Britpop. You can find a certain melancholy in all their songs. But
while Open Sky sounds nearly cheerful, the title song Home-Made
Cake Of The Day has more experimental, dark elements and spherical
80s-sounds. Covent Garden on the other hand is a hymn to
sing along. This CD has lots of different ideas: E.g. Maybe
surprises with a swinging piano-intro. DAYS OF FATE
make pop music, but they do not sound superficial. It is the voice
of Singer Torsten that divides them from the mass of other bands.
The songs are fully developed and always have interesting surprises.
That is not amazing if you know that the band exists now for ten
years. They have a changeful history, including an argument with
the record company and only one CD-release in ten years. The new
album nevertheless sounds fresh and easygoing.
If the world wanted to listen to really good pop music instead of
boring charts-songs, they would love DAYS OF FATE.
