DISARMONIA
MUNDI are well known maniacs in the vast ocean of melodic
Death Metal bands, caused by competent music played in the past
as well as the collaboration with Soilwork’s singer Björn
Strid.
The songs on the new effort The Isolation Game show
up in diverting manner, but the arrangements are not very outstanding.
Consequently, the music won’t stick out though the guitar
melodies are felicitous and the well known combination of aggressive
screeched vocals and clear sung refrains seems to be very competent.
In the end, some ear candies are the result.
My points of criticism are the quite uninspired drum work and
the lack of surprises. This album is homogenous but the dynamics
is missing. Sometimes I am nerved by the exaggerated modern effects
on the vocals.
The head-banger friendly rhythms in the strong song Stepchild
Of Laceration show to the right direction called enthusiasm,
but the Italians do not use this surprising moments during the
whole playtime.
Fortunately, the title track The Isolation Game shows up
as another brownie point, because of slightly modern elements,
a sugar sweet refrain and catchy measures. In all, most songs
are well done but off-the-peg tunes without setting priorities.
I like that the band speeds up during the track Blacklight
Rush enormously, but the voice shows up in too expressive
manner and influences the positive impression.
The borne interplay called Glimmer conjures a smile on
my face as well as the variable and intense song Losing Ground,
the mighty grooving Same Old Nails For A New Messiah (what
a funny title!:)) or the fast tune Digging A Grave Of Silence.
In general,
some songs pass me by without leaving traces in my mind. This
release is diverting with nice refrains and cool guitar melodies.
The penetrating power is boosted towards the end and lifts this
album definitely above average.
