What an incredible piece of asskicking modern Death Metal, were my thoughts when I had heard the first three tracks of DISARMONIA MUNDI's second CD. Powerful, yet melodic riffs from an Italian triplet sounding more Swedish than some Swedish bands do. Great lead-melodies, cool background-synthies - everything I actually like. The same thoughts may have come to Speed Strid's (Soilwork) mind, since he agreed to lay down vocals for Fragments Of D-Generation. And so DISARMONIA MUNDI are actually sounding like an overview of the whole Soilwork-discography - but with an own touch. Some really aggressive riffing and heavy stuff on the one hand, on the other hand catchy clean choruses and “numetallized” parts. But why did I mention the first tracks? Actually the only bad things about this CD is that the band does not seem to have used all their songwriting-potential. While the furious Common State Of Inner Violence, the over-the-top Morgue Of Centuries (killer-song!) and the quiet Red Clouds seriously are elitist songs, the Italians fail to maintain the same level during the rest of the CD. Of course, astonishing moments remain (Oceangrave with cool synths, Come Forth My Dreadful One with a very good refrain) but a band starting that ridiculously well should have done better throughout the whole CD. Perhaps my assessment is now sounding a bit unfair but overall Fragments Of D-Generation then only remains above average but can't conquer the throne of leaders like Soilwork or Dark Tranquillity. Nevertheless this CD is definitely worth being checked out. By the way, the cover-artwork is really mesmerizing!
