Take 5 gents from Norway and 1 from England and what do you get, a band calling themselves DIMMU (meaning foggy or dark) BORGIR (meaning castle or fortress). Dark Fortress sounds better but with a mysterious name twist giving the life to that band we know today as DIMMU BORGIR. Putting more than 7 albums/4 EP’s the band seems to be on the steady way of becoming a known act ranking with the likes of Cradle Of Filth, Old Mans Child, Bathory, Therion as well as other named creations. When I have received this album I was skeptical as to how they would top the other bands that I have mentioned thinking to myself not another cookie cutter band. Needless to say when listening to Death Cult Armageddon I was completely turned over from my first thought of the band. DIMMU BORGIR is more than a dark castle of sorts, they are some of the best inventive individuals creating a trademark of music that I can call Symphonic Death Metal. Recording of this album is a mastermind to its own right, something of it’s own existence generating some of the preeminent music to date this band has recorded. Freshly vibrant and devilishly wicked the band proves it can run with the big dogs when originality is concerned.

Allegiance gave the enticing sound to the band that gave an added meaning to Symphonic Metal elements combined with the reverberation that DIMMU BORGIR is known for. Striking chords of fury and vocals empowered from beneath below radiating darkness to the melodic depths of chaos. Black metal at its finest moment with glory of daylight shown with the aspects of the bands different approach to the intro at the beginning of the album. Expressive double bass along with guitar rhythms filled with keyboard creating its own symphony unto itself by none other than the man of mystery himself Mustis, the bands own Phantom Of The Opera on piano/keyboard/synth. Bringing the battle into full reign Eradication Instincts Defined introduced what is impressive work with the uniquely orchestrated piece of musical energy that creates this song to be one of the albums highlighted songs that stand out. Lyrically as well as musical composition DIMMU BORGIR far exceeds beyond the norm for a band of this class. Thoughts well formatted into a mind of a sinister yet truthful world tells the tale within For The World To Dictate Our Death giving the meaning of the title unto itself. Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse overall has the intrusion of a melody that is striking with hatred toward man, as Shagrath shows power as his voice echoes the strange while Silenoz/Glader construct the string arrangements that fuse with Simen Hestnaes (bass)/Nicolas Barker (drums) giving the finale end. Perfection!
