With Epicediums Intoxicated Intercourse Musicaz Records recently released a fine killer. And now I am curious to see if DEAD EYED SLEEPER also knows how to enthuse. First of all there is a lot of swank: “Death Metal insiders and music journalists have ranked south German DEAD EYED SLEEPER among the treasures of the scene since the release of Sickening Foresight. For all non-insiders and non-journalists: before calling themselves DEAD EYED SLEEPER they dropped their LEGACY banner under which they released 3 albums. The named Sickening Foresight was the latest output in 2003 before redefining.
Instead of bashing old-school Death Metal the five guys from Germany feature complex Death Metal. It’s too much complexity for my taste. In the consequence the catchy note is back seated. The reason for this can be found in the playing time which is getting out of hand up to seven minutes. I return to the stuff at regular intervals when the fiddle assembles. Interestingly packed in the instrumental songs no. 3 – Till Death Cry Thoughts To Sleep and no. 8 – A Reverie In Dismay, either to allow a breather for all “musical ambitious” listeners or to break the rushing by without paying attention. For me the last alternative comes into question and that’s why I rank From Cave To Grave to my personal wrecking-ball of In Memory Of Mankind - completely unselfish. This is the musical exclusive song of the album, which breaks with its grind-crust parts out of the line – the Instrumental songs left aside. Don’t get me wrong, DEAD EYED SLEEPER master their instruments very well. Fans of this genre have to check this stuff out and see for themselves. Take an eye to the mix of Christoph Brandes too – this guy also mixed Necrophagist. Maybe I should have gone and searched treasures on the German Fuck The Commerce open air…
