Without initiation, raid-like and right in the middle of the action - DEINONYCHUS do not offer time to sit down comfortably, but give full throttle from the first second on. Despite the powerful presentation, the tunes are not chaotic; the pieces are dressed in a pitch-black sound and the vocal performance enthrals by a desperate, but by no means hysterical tune.
The band works carefully with dynamics and combines symphonic nuances, sluggish rhythms or double-bass dominated parts. In addition, the musicians also integrate groovy passages to let unfold catchy hooks and memorable sounds in the midst of the challenging overall impression. Sometimes the group also takes the time to let a chord stand alone and puts loud and quiet elements cleverly next to each other. Harmonious leads are subtly held in the background, contrasting with the deeply despairing mood in The Weak Have Taken The Earth. All of a sudden, in the middle section, a reduced, fragile piano part with desperate screaming vocals freezes the blood in my veins, so this is definitely nothing for the faint-hearted!
The detailed instrumentation condenses the apocalyptic, maelstrom-like effect of Buried Under The Frangpanis by chiming bells. Here, too, a deliberate part, accompanied by fragile key tones and words of despair beguiles, before a doom-like concluding section with choral background finalizes the varied piece.
Oppressive and like a lonely scream in the darkness, the words echo in Dead Horse before a pained scream breaks the tension and fluid mid-tempo takes the lead. The sound is getting more and more enriched to give way to a headbanger-friendly rhythm that will ring in a gripping final.
The quite simple, focused piece called Dusk then lacks peculiarity for my notions, the somewhat dull and rhythm-oriented work rushes past me without melodic delicacies, but There Is No Eden scores with hypnotic sequences, effective tempo changes, crushing measures and a shot of symphonic adoptions. Finally, Silhouette beats again blithely, but throttles the pace in the middle to unleash the final blow with grinding strokes.
DEINONYCHUS perpetuate on this album heart-stripping, desperately screaming compositions that will draw you into lightless depths, if you just want to get involved!
