How to combine demanding progressiveness and brutal Death Metal? The result oftentimes sounds quite hard to take for the listener, not enough emotional, sterile and heartless…but that’s not the case with this Russian quintet. DEFECT DESIGNER do not exaggerate with weird rhythms and measure changes.
Additionally, the band integrates the one or other relaxed part and the speed is throttled to touch doomy regions – and this tactics contributes some suspense to this work. Unfortunately I miss outstanding melodies and also the monotonous voice avoids my total appreciation.
Nevertheless I can find interesting compositions such as the variable piece Almost Ready, which offers remarkable chords to find its place in my memory. Especially the hymnal part at the end would deserve a central place in this song’s structure.
Afterwards, the nice track Heads features a slight touch of craziness and the group shows, that the music is seriously composed, but holds some space for funny experiments. Apart from that, the easy-going attitude including one-two-three-four-babbling shows up in convenient manner during the amusing tune Vegetable. .

Wax is not a mind-crushing or outstanding album, but the partly relaxed, then again playful and crazy atmosphere dispersed good humor without forgetting about a special demand.
