The
latest Avantgarde Music output L’être las
– l’envers du miroir does not deal with
Metal at all. DARK SANCTUARY fifth masterpiece
(or better said third full-length) is a pure, deeply melancholic
and somber album. This French sextet describes their music as Dark
Atmospheric Music which is perfectly fitting,
since this album gives a touch of gothic atmosphere to the neoclassical
basics.
The music is stamped by solely classical instruments, focusing on
a violin ensemble performed by Eliane and Marguerite. But also discreet
and wonderful piano melodies know how to set accents as wells as
the sporadic and sometimes beamy utilized percussions, which do
not follow the conventional (Metal) drum roots. At times there are
acoustic guitars to hear for example in L’envers du miroir
as there are also some typical medieval instrumentations. But these
ones do not turn L’être las – l’envers
du miroir in a special medieval direction, not at
all. They just set further accents. A really special emanation the
bombard can create, which is mostly a more aggressive sounding traditional
instrument used in Brittany.
For getting a deeper sound in the music there are a lot of keyboards
used which interweave a dense and unobtrusive soundscape. Of course,
with a real orchestra in the background it would sound much more
awesome. But who can afford anything like that nowadays?
The music gets solemn by the voice of Lady Pandora which is clear
and powerful. You don’t have to fear any operatic singing
or even this often in Gothic fields used squeaking. Not at all.
Her voice ranges in normally mortal scopes with an intensive expression.
The singing is often shifted and layered and appears like a choir
which lends the singing a stunning charm. Sometimes there also appear
male spoken words from one of the gentlemen.
L’être las – l’envers du miroir
you have to take as a complete work and also as a concept. It is
almost impossible to point out passages and single tracks. From
14 songs are one third interludes and bridges to the following tracks.
In a lyrical aspect this album deals with the beauteousness of spherical
life in clear and untouchable coldness without a body of flesh and
blood, without the agony of real life. The search of the all fulfilling
death, the lurid flames of eternity and the endless embrace of the
darkness. It is all sung in French and while doing so it gives the
music a perfect touch of melancholy and darkness.
L’être las – l’envers du miroir
is quite a versatile album. So it sounds sometimes like a chamber
music, just to turn into a soundtrack with epic broadness, to turn
again into Gothic fields due to energetic percussion eruptions.
Those who needs comparisons to classify this kind of music anywhere
I would like to refer to Elend. Just reduce their grandiose trilogy
of the horror and avant-garde factor.
DARK SANCTUARY is music for the spheres of the
senses.
