Concerning
this album, everything seems to be hopeless and eerie: the cover
shows a carriage ready for the last ride, which is predicted in
the title All Roads Lead To Death. Of course the
music turns out to be cold and desperate as well, using different
speeds and dynamics, always carried by the very broken-hearted
voice, which lets the tunes sound like an ode to death itself.
DANTALION are smart musicians and don’t let the hammer
fall continuously, but they also do not care much about catchiness.
The songs
show up in epic manner and this way of composing leaves space
for many different elements. Naturally the danger of boredom must
be banned, but the band manages to do that felicitously. In fact,
the oscillating piece Walking To Eternity sounds enthralling
and captivating during the nine minutes playing time.
In my opinion, All Roads Lead To Death can be described
best as long and stony path. A little bit cumbersome, demanding,
variable and enriched with many interesting details, that can
be detected only after a close look or listen. Not a few certain
parts of the path are eminently beautiful or worth to mention
– it is the overall impression that counts in the end. The
listener is happy to have taken this acoustic adventure with the
band.
Ok, let’s
take seat in the coach, no matter if it looks uncomfortably from
outside. The longer the journey lasts, the better it gets! Despite
the desperate music, the overview seems exhilarating and hymnal!
