Whoops! Fans
of straight Alternative Rock music like played by Nickelback,
Pearl Jam & Co sharpen your ears! Paint The Town Red,
the debut album of the German band CREKKO, could be more
than interesting to you! On Paint The Town Red you
will find a bunch of flawless and straightforward catchy songs.
Surely a big plus is the voice of Marco Selter who, in a positive
way, nearly sounds like a copy of Nickelback’s frontman.
A further bonus is the extreme catchiness resulting in choruses
you can sing a long with often after the first and by no means
later after the third time.
The production is clear and tight, giving the album enough drive
and power. Well done! Another feature I personally really like
is the fact that CREKKO come along a bit edgy and have
some very slight metallic influences and as such keeping the pseudo
tragic slush of many related bands at a very low (if at least
noticeable) level.
Well… There is hardly more to say. Ok – some breaks
maybe just a bit too long and I personally would also have liked
one or two more levels of heaviness, say like Soil or Drowning
Pool. Needless to say that innovation also can’t be found
here. But why reinvent the wheel? This is just straight forward
music with no real need for innovations.
Paint The Town Red is real fun and songs like More
And More, Mooning (great!) or Anger just have to be
played live and sung along by the crowd.
I keep my fingers crossed for CREKKO and hope that this
album will not get lost in the flood of releases. A fine album
like Paint The Town Red really deserves some form
of commercial success. There are tons of potential fans out there,
I guess. They just have to hear from CREKKO in some form.
