BLODHEMN create their version of variable, very discreetly modern Black Metal, accentuated by rattling riffs and traditional vibes. A sometimes over-twisted, crazy avant-garde in the style of Arcturus or Enslaved creates a special, elusive aura, which is mainly transported by the crazy, sometimes double-layered (screaming) vocals.
Dissonant tones prevail in the complex compositions, which are absolutely not suitable as a disdainful background sound. In between, however, as with Døgenikt, there may also be a simple uffta-rhythm, then the piece Østfront takes off with a pinch Black’n’Roll to really shake your legs and neck. Here again this biting, not at all sweetly harmonious dissonance riffing emerges, which really presses uncomfortably and scratchy on the taste buds. In between there are always quite direct clattering attacks, which during Nordhavs Speil create an effective field of tension with the intense screams. We come across a wonderful fusion of racy Black’n’Roll and sensitive lead guitars at the epic Uante Krefter I Fra Nord, where a speedy finale causes a furor. A pinch of punk drives Dra Te’ Helvete impetuously forward before the expansive Mot Midnatt scores with repetitive melody motifs and biting vocal presence.
BLODHEMN is not at all easy to access; they create a special, partly unpleasant, then again melodic fusion metal cocktail, which presents itself variable in speed and rhythm to the right extent. First, the somewhat complex structure must be unraveled, and then nothing stands in the way of a demanding listening pleasure!
