Well done, guys! Like the last album Sceptre Of Black Knowledge, the new masterpiece Oath Of A Warrior can totally satisfy me with unusual instrumentations (just listen to the mandolin), which can enthuse the listener again and again! The mixture consists of a bit of Folk played in various speed and a lot of metal! The performance is virtuously both lyrically and musically and the songs have a lot of pressure on the one side. On the other hand I can detect numerous nearly swinging melodies! This piece of music is kind of ear-candy, which impresses with enormous joy in performing and authenticity. I would call it heart blood and it wells punctiliously out of the compositions!
The mighty hymns are celebrated with indulgence, sometimes stout-hearted and fast, sometimes with heroic melodies interlaced. The intro Götterdämmerung leads us into the right mood which is inherent in all of the following battle songs. In the following A New Messiah pumping rhythms, fine elaborated melodies and nagged vocals go together. I prefer German lyrics, it is more pugnacious and fits the band’s attitude better. This is the case in the song Blutsbrüder, which seems to have a Russian touch because of the mandolin and tempts me to teeter my feet. Furthermore, the lyrics can be understood easily, you find them if needed in the beautifully designed booklet. German and English lyrics alternate during the whole playing time. The speed is also varying a lot, so there is no chance to get bored! It is a lot of fun to listen to this band being stylistically close to acts like Equilibrium, Menhir or XIV Dark Centuries. In the song Christenfeind a violin indicates directions and so BLACK MESSIAH are able to surprise and attract the metalfans’ attention, because the songs take unpredictable turns concerning temper and speed. In aforesaid song, Zagan fiddles himself into a real intoxication, ere the solo is superseded by sleekly vocals. Oh yes, there is a lot to discover! Nevertheless the songs are not supercharged – no, every single part fits in perfectly and the voyage through the musical cosmos of BLACK MESSIAH proves to be exceedingly worthwhile! I am looking forward to the tour together with Cruachan this autumn!
