I would like to deem it funny that especially the so traditional and true Black Metal scene is able to breed such progressive and partly Avant-garde hybrids in music as the French, American and German scene proves. May it be Post Rock, Folk or even Shoegaze that finds its way into Black Metal music, leading to excitingly thrilling and atmospheric results many a fan likes to disavow.

ANIMO AEGER is such band from Germany (as long as one considers a duo as a band), breaking up traditional song structures and creating a unique atmosphere.
The 38 minutes running EP Fieber first of all lives from the varied singing of Graasjäl, who ranges between classic hysterical shrieking, nasty grunts and slightly theatrical clean singing. Especially latter mentioned clean singing makes Fieber to a unique piece of music. It reminds me a bit of Subway To Sally, a combination I have never heard before in Black Metal music. Once heard one will never forget and always connect to ANIMO AEGER. That is what I call a high recognition value.

Musically Fieber ranges between Nordic furiousness and many long atmospheric parts, always on a high melodic and epic level.

Browsing the net for ANIMO AEGER I found many comparisons with Dornenreich and Nocte Obducta, bands I actually do not know. So I feel remembered of early Bethlehem, especially when the singing drifts into DSBM realms. Musically ANIMO AEGER definitely carved their own niche they even underline with poetic German lyrics.
My recommendation: the 9 minutes running epic Schabe und Kolkrabe teilen sich das Weltenende and the melodic Zweifel.
