ALDA created a deeply engaging, intensely heart-warming natural mood on this album in 2011, which has lost none of its fascination seven years later. The music changes between sparkling crystal-clear guitars and dark black metal, creating an oscillating field of tension.
Epic sound landscapes, furious storm attacks, focused galloping passages and extensive instrumental parts characterize this work of pride, rebellion and melancholy. In The Wake Of An Iron Wind, the first monster song, develops an incredibly captivating dynamic when the musicians play themselves into a real intoxication towards the end as earthy riffs and hissing voices threaten to burst with energetic drive. A heavenly harmonious conclusion brings this acoustic roller coaster ride gently to a close.
Regardless of whether ALDA glide calmly and stoically or whether black metal aggression gains the upper hand - :Tahoma: tears the listener back and forth between elegiac sublimity and obscure fury. The voice adapts perfectly to the different tempos and moods in either a clear, bitterly angry spitting or desperately screaming manner.
This path full of loud and quiet dynamics makes subtle orchestral sounds even more interesting during Tearing Of The Weave; in course of Shadow Of The Mountain, fine acoustic guitars in combination with a soft intonation are bewitching for the time being. From the calm I actually expect the next volcanic eruption, but ALDA also surprise here and remain silent until the end.
Only at the final Wandering Spirit the ride becomes more turbulent again, not only spitting poison and bile vocally, but also exploring the whole spectrum tempo-wise. Cool grooving elements appear in the midst of high-speed beatings and hypnotic sound walls, next to them organic sound samples and reserved motifs find their place.
ALDA captivate on this album by their natural, earthy approach and refrain from big gestures or striking platitudes. :Tahoma: invites you on a stormy, lively and energetic sound journey, which is made exciting by striking and effective turns.
