I have to confess, that I haven’t listened to such a record for a long time. The reason was, that there was too much of this epic, southern European Power Metal a la Rhapsody or Skylark which became to much the same over the time for me. But my suspicions from back then were true. After some years you are open again to listen to that stuff, which was made obvious to me by AIRGED L’AMH, a Greek band with their new CD The Silver Arm. They are playing, free from any trends or streaming or whatever, Power Metal, which flooded the scene at the end of the 90s. They are mixing their “home” style with some Blind Guardian elements, which makes the songs a lot more melodious than the ones of some of their genre mates. I like the whole CD, because they have fantastic melodies which get into your ears right away (like some Dark Moor songs or the mentioned Blind Guardian) and they set very strict on their roots, which makes AIRGED L’AMH a true old school band in the style of early Rhapsody or Dark Moor for me. They are not trying to bring in other elements in as these of Power Metal, so the CD is no open minded 21st century record, but a true Power Metal CD in the sense, that the guys are trying to bring in their vision of it and it really worked. I would say, that The Silver Arm would have sank 6 years ago, because of the flood of other, similar releases, but now I think it can be handled as that what it is – a very good Power Metal CD which should be interesting to all genre fans.
