Happy melodies,
kitschy pathos, and drinking tunes to sing along – you won’t
find these Pagan Metal attributes on this release. Omen
breathes a lot of hearty and demanding draft, a nice portion of
heaviness as well as variation.
Interim, the
guys take care of contained, calm sequences, whereby the band
is supported by a string ensemble. Consequently, the opener Seeking
For The Past gets introduced and enriched in very emotional
manner.
In addition, some more formative characteristics like intense
screeches, German lyrics and nicely built-up suspense form the
sound. Sometimes, the acoustic guitar takes on the lead like at
the beginning of the track Die Das Licht Nie Sehen Werden,
which knows to elate with raging vocals and a felicitous rhythm.
Every now and then I am reminded of the similar acting band Riger
because of the battlesome atmosphere. Eminently the whispered
voice builds up a likewise mood. In this regard, I appreciate
the unloading title track with its calm beginning, fierce basis
structure, rhythmic catchiness and an expanded relaxing part.
Many rhythms invite to shake one’s leg and the thoughtful
parts demand full attention. On these grounds, aggressive amusement
and melodic pretension are well balanced.
Obtrusive ear candies do not show up on this release, AHNENGRAB
set their focus on substance and long-term-effect. I definitely
cherish this approach so that Omen pleases me with
a vehement drive.
