“If you leave out the singers, I actually think the music is really good.”
[Moni – her first PSOA]

[Dajana] Bloody hell, this year it was complicated. It took a long time to finalize the vacation arrangements, but then I was able to look forward to my favorite festival, short but intense :)
The PARTY SAN METAL OPEN AIR 2025 once again offered a great line-up and many bands, unknown, missed or never seen live to date and ready to be caught and discovered. I was much looking forward to NAPALM DEATH and ROTTING CHRIST, among others, and I was curious to see how the great DOOL would do in this billing ;)
There were also a few bands in the tent that I was curious about and have never seen live before, such as IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT. And after ages, I'll finally get to see NIGHT IN GALES again, yeah.
As soon as the camping gear was stuffed into my car and my ass finally hit the road, all the stress was gone and forgotten and I was just overwhelmingly excited to have a great weekend, meet lovely people, and see awesome bands playing loud and heavy as fuck :)

[BRT] Yeah, it was complicated and up in the air for a long time this year. Phew. But without PARTY SAN METAL OPEN AIR, it just wouldn't be the same. We just have to accept that...
Once again, a very colorful bouquet of melodies was announced, a few old stagers, plenty of newcomers, and bands that are moving up the billing after all these years. Surprises and disappointments are inevitable. That's how it has to be. DOOL, NAPALM DEATH, and ROTTING CHRIST are simply incredible live, so you're on the safe side there. DARK ANGEL and TRIPTYKON can be a mixed bag live. CRYPT SERMON and WAYFARER were bands I was really looking forward to. But even more exciting were the bands we didn't know yet, because we've kept our musical curiosity alive.

[Moni] I can't even count how many times I've been told that I should come to PSOA. But what can I say - black metal, death metal, or grindcore - I'm not really into it. I like the music in principle, but vocals are essential to me in music, and screaming and grunting don't count as vocals for me. Well, there's a first time for everything. I didn't really look into the line-up, as I assumed that I would see two or three bands at most. This assumption was due to my aforementioned aversion to the “vocals” in these genres of music. So, I went with the expectation of seeing DOOL and GRAND MAGUS and spending the rest of the time chatting with nice people and enjoying the festival atmosphere, which I had heard so many good things about.

[Dajana] These days, you can make pretty accurate weather predictions for PSOA. If the Wacken Open Air is sinking in mud the previous weekend (and they're totally flooded again), PSOA will be nice :) That's how it should be! The only question is how hot it will actually get. But... everything's fine. Almost perfect weather. Only on Saturday a little more sunscreen was needed (there were still sunburns too, at least a few.)

[Dajana] As at any other festival, ticket prices for PSOA also rose considerably this year. But that was to be expected, in a way. Beer prices remained the same, and I would say food prices went up by about 50 cents? Merchandise prices also remained moderate: 20-35 euros for T-shirts, 40 euros for long-sleeves, and 55 euros for zippers/hoodies.

[BRT] Not much has changed in the organization, most things are running smoothly, perhaps because we arrived on Wednesday again. The campground, though, was already packed, which is crazy. But everything was very relaxed, and the accreditation staff was super nice. All reasons why we love coming back year after year, no question!

[Dajana] Yes, Wednesday seems to be a good day to arrive, even if it does cause a kind of jet lag, at least for me... hahaha.
What I have noticed, however, is that at DWS Security, the same people are always at the respective checkpoints throughout the entire four days. There is no rotating system to provide a bit of variety. There is also no sun or rain protection and no table to eat or put drinks on. Just a chair. I don't think that's great.

[Dajana] Yes, many of the bands mentioned it on stage (and bowed towards the organizers), and we wholeheartedly agree, for the 17th time this year...
The PARTY SAN METAL OPEN AIR
is such a great festival! Everything is so damn relaxed. No hustling crowds, no rushing, no scramble for the entrance or the stage, no mud fights, no cheating, and no ripping off the fans! I can't even remember of having seen any fights (although there have been arguments, mostly alcohol-related, but people usually step in right away) or hearing about any serious thefts at the campsite.
[BRT] A quick note: unfortunately, some people had things stolen from their tents at a friends' camp. There are idiots everywhere, even here. I hope the organizers can do something to prevent this in the future.

[Dajana] Hmm. That's a shame.
By the way... this year, Münster is represented by three bands at PSOA: HERETIC WARFARE, NAXEN, and half of the fine minds from SCALPTURE. Oh, I can think of even more bands :) Would there be enough bands from Münster to fill an entire evening at a (possible) Münster Metal Massacre? Just an idea...

[Dajana] Nevertheless, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mieze, Jarne, Boy, Erik, Tobi, and the entire PSOA team, as well as all the many helpers, restroom attendants (the restrooms and festival ground were exceptionally clean this year), medical staff, and security personnel who are there for us day and night. It's always a special treat for us to be part of this party ♥♥♥
