Born in the chaos of harddisk killing viruses, sleepless nights and indefatigable work, the new album of mastermind Adrian Hates FeaK Perfume has seen the light of day. And that on time to the fixed release date. My respect to all of those who have made this possible. After DIARY OF DREAMS has made my mouth water with their preceding EP releases O'Brother Sleep and AmoK, I could hardly await to get the longplayer into my fingers. And here it is!

Freak Perfume gets delivered, as always, with a noble arty digi pack, but this time with an stylistically unusual cover artwork. Opener Traum:A is an epic of melancholy, a typical art of Adrian Hate and reminds me a lot of the old times of Cholymelan and End Of Flowers. The Curse goes almost the same way, it is just more danceable, as O'Brother Sleep does too. First I thought the dreamy Chrysalis gets performed by Torben Wendt (who is the second singer in DOD but at the moment studying in Canada) because of the different voice, but now I know he did not. It's just another side of Adrians possibilities.
With Traumtaenzer and Rebellion there are for the first time songs with German lyrics, whereas the latter doesn't fit musically into the overall concept in my opinion. The same thing with Bastard. Another highlights are without a doubt Verdict as well as Play God! and the epic She And Her Darkness.

In a lyrical respect Hate deals with betrayed feelings, sold dreams and taunted anguish, where everybody can find oneself back in contemplative self-reflection. You go through dark times and you can almost comprehend the physical pain. This album seems to reflect authentic traits.

FreaK Perfume is kind of in the same way like Bird Without Wings. There are some flaws, but without any total failures. It is just that this album is not that homogeneous and constantly on a high level we know from the predecessor or the above mentioned first releases. Nevertheless it is an impressing album. After several runs you can't elude its magic.

In the end it has to be mentioned that the limited edition has three bonus tracks on it. First there is a remix of The Curse which I like way more than the original; second there is a remix of AmoK, which is kind of similar and at the end there is a pretty crazy version of Rebellion - Stranger Than Rebellion. FreaK Perfume is a must for all DOD fans. For all others who prefer skillfull Electro/Wave this album is a perfect introduction into the world of Adrian Hates.
