The Unhealthy Opera is Death Metal with striking songs without forgetting nice guitar melodies. Talking about the vocals: they oscillate between throaty screeching as well as deep-seated gurgle growls and fit in absolutely accurate. In addition to that the band offers variable drum work and some slower abrading parts giving real piquancy to YRKOON’s sound.
The music is geared to American style like Morbid Angel, but adds Nordic melodies. Sometimes YYRKOON slow down to doom parts like in the title song Unhealthy Opera, but only to attack very heavy once again – and this tactic operates intensely, or in short: I don’t know if I should bang my head or just listen and relish, that’s Metal with class and grand entertainment guarantee, this one goes off really well! For god’s sake YYRKOON don’t only focus on speed, so the instrumental track Temple Of Infinity is interspersed appropriately; the listener is abducted to relaxed sound spheres just to get scared up after a short period, when Abnormal Intrusion kicks off.
What’s YYRKOON’s secret? They use contrasts to leverage the heavy and melodic side efficiently; so a slow part presupposes a potentialization of heaviness if the speed is boosted. Liar, the second pure instrumental song, is placed cleverly before the concluding-twin – the following …Of Madness starts groovy to bash some blast beats around later on, spoken passages are also present and the feeling of boredom gets no chance to emerge. Injecting Dementia steamrollers the last intact acoustic nerve, does not persist in mid tempo, but puts in a burst of speed to alternate with sluggish parts. The bonus track Signs holds a surprise, namely clear vocals showing YYRKOON’s creative possibilities.
Concluding I can summarize that the song writers did a fine job and the tracks possess technical pretension staying convenient for head bangers. This release is suitable in equal measure to kick ass as well as to lean back and enjoy!
