Back in 2008
the YUPPIE CLUB wanted to Pretty Brutal with their first
release, the club laws were inked new and are ready to read above
the header Pretty Insane. And before having the
chance to read or listen to these bylaws I had exactly two points
of contact with the YUPPIE CLUB. Even if the stubborn MySpace
presence comes close to penetrance, my interest was awaken by
the Carcass cover Exhume To Consume. This cover-version
isn’t the highest class at all or knocks me out of my shoes,
but it was easily enough to pay attention to the masked suit-wearing
Grind & Death Metal heads. And when listening to Pretty
Insane – Exhume To Consume has found its
entitled place in this release – the first interest fades
abruptly. Excellent premature praises are given in the promo sheet.
Early Napalm Death, Defecation, Extreme Noise Terror or Repulsion
are named as excellent references – the bands I grew up
with and which still belong to my favourite Metal bands by now.
I can’t spot the formative old school Grind played by Napalm
Death, no Intro Megaton, no Crust like Murder much less Radiation
Sickness. What is to hear clearly is simple, wrecked up Old School
that carries blasphemy when named in the same breath with the
mentioned bands. Definitely, I can’t deny YUPPIE CLUB
a certain charm, especially the tracks and the production are
reduced and apply Occam’s razor. Steady monotonous growls,
a level that leaves the basic education just temporarily in 1
up to 2 minute tracks doesn’t suffice to reach high aims.
It may fits that Pungent Stench fronter Schirenc supports the
YUPPIE CLUB behind the mic in Beyond The Unknown,
but fine words butter no parsnips. Pretty Insane
is an album just for die-hard fans, minimum two leagues above
Repulsion and co.
