When looking at the title for the first time, one could expect that this is a (Black) Metal release, but VIRTUAL SPACE INDUSTRIAL are delivering flawless Electro with Gehenna, which is anywhere between Suicide Commando, Hocico etc. Gehenna is the first album release on a record label for Kanariss and Stefan from Poland after having produced one EP by them and therefore Poland is not a no mans land anymore electro-wise with view to the eastern expansion of the European Union. Matching the omnipresence on TV of the recently deceased pope, the words of Gehenna have a biblical background in combination with social criticism. This is an uncommon combination in the electro area, but maybe it has to do with the sometimes conservative attitude concerning religion of the homeland of the two musicians.
The first song Holy Children and the later following Traitor is kicking off and is fast reaching the ear to shake a leg, but with increasing play time the music is getting optional and is plashing along, due to the fact that most of the songs are in the sluggish mid-tempo area and/or there is no high recall value. Especially the Love For A Moment and Hope, which is partly in polish, I recall unpleasantly. Sometimes vocal trips are made towards very successful [:SITD:] (Right Hand of God).
Besides the criticism above, Gehenna is a comparatively solid album and the two Poles do have potential to be developed, there is only the danger of going under in the flood of (good) releases in the electro area. Let’s have a look at what the next publication of VIRTUAL SPACE INDUSTRIAL will bring.
