After two demos (Wintergrab, released 2007 and Nur Ein Traum, 2008) and one live gig VARGNATT from Germany have now released a 5-track EP, Durch Die Stille. Sole member, singer and multi-instrumentalist Evae has created a fairly decent Black Metal output. Whilst it is not really a groundbreaking album, it has some fine and memorable riffs and breaks. Typical Black Metal most of the time is interspersed with quiet moments of spoken words on Geist In Ketten – probably the best song on this 30-minute-EP. The next two songs, Schall Und Rauch and Traum Von Einer Jugend are nothing special – I wish I had the lyrics in front of me, maybe then I could say more about their songs. Erwachen is a very slow and melancholic song that somehow manages to be heavier and more desperate than the faster songs on this EP. …Mit Dem Sturm starts with a flute and quickly changes into fast Black Metal again with a quiet and dreamy part in the middle.
I hope Evae will eventually release a full album, this output is definitely promising.
